About UPSC

Union Public Service commission (UPSC) conducts the Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services Examination for recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other central services and posts, as per the rules published by the Government in the Gazette of India. UPSC recruits candidates in civil services as well as defence services.

Civil Services Examination (CSE) is divided into 2 parts:-

1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective)
2. Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview includes personality test).

UPSC is responsible for recruiting All India Services (AIS) and Central services for Group A and Group B services. The list of Group A services includes:-
The Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
The Indian Railway Service (Indian Railway Accounts Service, Indian Railway Personnel Service, Indian Railway Traffic Service)
Indian Postal Service (Indian Post and Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service, Indian Postal Service)
Accounts and Auditing Services (Indian Audit and Accounts Service)
Defence Accounts Service
Indian Customs and Central Excise
The Indian Ordnance Factories Service
The Indian Defence Estates Service
The Indian Information Service
The Central Trade Services

The list of Group B services includes:-

the Central Secretariat Service (Section Officers GradE-CSS)
the Railway Board Secretariat Service (Section Officer's GradE- RBSS)
the Indian Foreign Service (Section Officer's GradE- IFS 'B')
the Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service (Assistant Civilian Staff Officers Grade)
the Custom's Appraisers Service
the Delhi and Andaman & Nicobar Islands Civil Services (DANICS)
the Goa & Lakshadweep,
Daman and Diu Police Service,
Posts of Assistant Commandant,
Post of Deputy Superintendents of Police in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Exam notice is issued 3 months prior to the date of examination on the commission’s website. The date of release of the exam information for each exam is published in the leading newspapers of the country. UPSC publishes annual calendar of all structured exam at least 6 months in advance i.e. approximately around the month of May or June. It is important that students note down the important dates of all IAS exams to avoid missing important events.

UPSC REGISTRATION

Candidates can apply online for UPSC exam by visiting website:- https://upsconline.nic.in. Application will not be accepted in any other mode.
A candidate gets 3 week's time to apply for UPSC exam and can fill the application with the help of the instructions provided on the website. Application mode is online.

Online application form is divided into two parts:-
1. In the first part, the application has personal details name, date of birth, address, age relaxation, educational qualification and the number mentioned in the photo ID card. After completion of part 1, Registration ID (RID) is generated by the system.
2. In the second part, it includes fee payment, choosing examination centre, recent photos, signature, photo ID card and agreeing to the declaration.
If any of the application part remains incomplete, the candidature cannot be registered.
If the payment is done through bank challan, then candidate has to mention TID (Transaction ID). Entering an incorrect TID may cause your online application to be rejected.
Keep in mind that poor quality of photograph will lead to create complications in future.
The candidature will be cancelled if the candidate does not pay the fee. (Non-payment of fee).
Candidate has to choose the mode of the language at the time of filling the application form.
If the candidates have qualified for Mains, then they will have to fill the Detailed Application Form (DAF) which would made available for them for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination.
