A fraction (from Latin fractus, "broken") represents a part of a whole or, more generally, any number of equal parts. When spoken in everyday English, a fraction describes how many parts of a specific size there are, for example, one-half, eight-fifths, three-quarters.

Proper Fractions: - The numerator is less than the denominator. Examples: 1/3, 3/4, 2/7

Improper Fractions: - The numerator is greater than (or equal to) the denominator. Examples: 4/3, 11/4, 7/7

Mixed Fractions: - A whole number and proper fraction together. Examples: 1 1/3, 2 1/4, 16 2/5

Chapter 3 covers concepts like a classification of fractions, reducing the given fraction to its lowest term, simple and complex fraction, like and unlike fractions, comparing fraction and mathematical operations on the fraction.
