NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Chemistry Chapter 1 Synthetic Fibers and Plastics

Synthetic fibres and plastics, similar to natural fibres are made up of extensive Chain. The formed Chain is called a polymer. The polymer is a Greek word in which ‘poly’ means many, and ‘mer’ means units. Plastic is also a polymer like synthetic fibre. Depending upon the types of chemicals used for the manufacture, some synthetic fibres are rayon, nylon, polyester and acrylic. Rayon or Artificial Silk, it is a human-made fibre obtained from a natural source called the wood pulp. Acrylic is a synthetic fibre that resembles wool. The wool obtained from natural sources is quite expensive, whereas clothes made from acrylic are relatively cheap. Synthetic fibres are more durable and affordable, which makes them more popular than natural fibres.
