ML Aggarwal Solutions for Class 6 Maths Chapter 7 Decimals

We use decimals every day while dealing with money, weight, length etc. Decimal numbers are used in situations where more precision is required than the whole numbers can provide. For example, when we calculate our weight on the weighing machine, we do not always find the weight equal to a whole number on the scale. A decimal is any number in our base-ten number system. Specifically, we will be using numbers that have one or more digits to the right of the decimal point in this unit of lessons. The decimal point is used to separate the one's place from the tenths place in decimals. (It is also used to separate rupees from paisa in money.) As we move to the right of the decimal point, each number place is divided by 10.

The addition and subtraction of decimals come in handy in situations such as you have to add or subtract rupees and paisa. If you know how to add and subtract whole numbers, then you can add and subtract decimals! Just be sure to line up the terms so that all the decimal points are in a vertical line.

Multiplying decimals is the same as multiplying whole numbers except for the placement of the decimal point in the answer. When you multiply decimals, the decimal point is placed in the product so that the number of decimal places in the product is the sum of the decimal places in the factors.
